***UPDATE*** Guerrero will be wrestling Low Ki again at the 1/19 show.  Also, Eddy has been announced as one of the three men who will participate in a new federation that will be started by the people at RF Video.  Low-Ki and Christoper Daniels are the others.

December 6, 2001

The first bit of news this week is 'Essa Rios' was released from the WWF yesterday (12/5), along with a few of the rejects that the WWF picked up from the sinking WCW. "We are encouraging each of these men to continue to improve, as they all seem to be outstanding individuals with strong desires to make it in sports-entertainment," said Jim Ross at the WWF website (no link for you!) 'Rios', was been spending the last year or so thrashing indy workers on the WWF's throwaway show, Jakked. While he will probably be getting a cut in pay, his release is great news for his fans, as he has officially returned to Mexico under his original name, Mr. Aguila. Thankfully, Mexico has welcomed him with open arms, as he was competing regularly in AAA during the last few weeks, and will be showing up on CMLL T.V. in the near future.
On a more personal note, I've always been a fan of american wrestling, but for the last few years, the 'lucha element' in the WWF and WCW has been very depressing. As strange as it seems, the complete removal of that element from the american shows will make the Mexican shows that much more fun to watch. Imagine if Eddy shows up in CMLL down the line. There is the possibility that we could see Rey Jr., Essa Rios and Eddy taking on Psicosis, Juvi, and Black Tiger (Silver King). Not only would this help bring american fans to CMLL, but would give lucha a pleasant shot in the arm.
Regardless, the former 'Papi Chulo' should have been released from the WWF the day they had that piece of ass, Lita, turn on him. It was obvious that his push ended right there.

EMLL has a PPV scheduled for 12/14, named 'Sin Piedad,' or 'Without Mercy.' In a rematch from the 8-man tag from this weeks show, Santo, Negro Casas, Misterio Jr. and Hombre Sin Nombre will square off against Nicho, Juventud, Damian 666 and Halloween. I'm hoping La Familia will step up their game for this match, and I'm sure that the tecnico team is going to tear the house down.
The much anticipated hair vs. hair match between Emilio Charles Jr. and 1000% Guapo, Shocker will finally take place that night as well. These two have been feuding for as long as I can remember, so hopefully the angle will climax here, as I'd like to see them both move on (Shocker especially). How weird will Emilio Charles look with that fat beard, and a bald head?
In an odd booking move, a second hair vs. hair match has also been announced. Tarzan Boy will take on Super Porky in a one-on-one match. Although there is still two weeks of television left before the PPV, so far there doesn't seem to be much of a point to this match. The only reason that I could see this match being booked, would be to have Tarzan take Porkys' hair, and be established and pushed as a singles heel (possibly drifting away from his 'Guerreros del Inferno' stable, as he doesn't seem to fit in with them anyway). I've always enjoyed Porkys' comedy act, so I'm going to be pointlessly hoping that Tarzan catches the wrath the Porky's fat ass.
This PPV could go either way, as more matches will be announced in the next few weeks.

Eddy Guerrero update: Eddy Guerrero had his first match since being released from WWFE last Friday (11/31). He locked up with the ultra impressive, indy deity, Low-Ki at an Impact Championship wrestling show in Queens. Since Guerrero was the major name, fresh from the big time, he got the easy win, right?...nope. In what was said to be a good match, Low-Ki picked up the victory over latino heat. If I may borrow a line from my good friend Bobby, "Let that be a lesson kids, drunk driving doesn't bring anything but jobbing and unemployment."
The next match Guerrero is scheduled for is on 1/19 in Hackettstown, NJ for Jersey All Pro Wrestling against an unknown opponent.

A recap of this weeks CMLL show has been posted in the results section. I'll try to stay on top of these, as the shows have been pretty good lately. I'm also going to try to put together a new feature that will read as a 'who's who' for the current CMLL roster. I'm hoping it will help the new english-speaking fans get acquainted with the current luchadores and storylines. I'm pretty naive with this stuff, so if anybody wants to lend me a hand, you know where to find me. Also, I was recently able to get on the 'Top 25 Sites' in the Sacramento area (Sacramento REPRESENT!), and at 'press time' I was clocked in at 6th place with a whopping 6 people clicking the 'Top 25' link on the left hand side of this page. Go ahead and click the link to help Viva climb the charts (and check out the 'kewl' banner I put together for them). Until next week, Viva La Lucha Libre!
