May 24, 2002

Whew, it seems like I haven't written about CMLL in weeks. Oh shit!...it has been weeks. These Galavision/time slot shennanigans have really thrown me off, causing me to miss weeks of glorious CMLL programming. DAMN YOU, GALAVISION! This wasn't part of the deeaalll!!!
The major storyline taking place this month has been the ongoing struggle between the Japanese and Mexican wrestlers in CMLL. In a surprising exhibition of great booking, Shocker has been paired with Mascara Magica to form Los Guapos 2000 (a rehash of the original Los Guapos, the stable that Shocker started years ago). In their first feud as a team, Los Guapos 2K will face the Japanese stars, Mazada and Takemura in a double hair vs. hair match at the upcoming CMLL pay-per-view on May 31. If Shocker and Magica lose, I will personally shave my own head, as well. You heard it here first, folks.

It has been reported that Japanese superstar Jushin Lyger is planning on a short stint in CMLL in the coming weeks. I haven't seen much of Lyger, but how can you not be enthralled by a guy that dresses like this. Don't sleep on this, cause there's an excellent chance that Lyger will cross paths with a certain evil doctor during his stay in Mexico.
As reported last month, Rey Mysterio Jr has received 'the big call,' and is currently cracking heads in the WWF's developmental fed, Ohio Valley Wrestling. In his second match in the OVW, he wrestled to a no contest with the OVW Heavyweight Champion, Nova. Their encounter is being reported as one of the finest matches in a long time. No shit, right?  He should have been on Smackdown weeks ago. Once Mysterio gets over, I hope Vince kicks himself for not signing him earlier. Hurry up, Rey. Kidman needs help getting over.

It's not a bad time to be a Mexican wrestling fan, my friends. CMLL is chugging along just fine (with no gigantes to boot), Eddie Guerrero is feuding with Steve Austin and Rey Jr is preparing to OWN the WWF's cruiserweight division. Can I get a "Viva La Lucha Libre?" VIVA LA LUCHA LIBRE!
