Lemus II: The hardest working luchador on the internet.

Scorpio Jr has traveled far in the world of lucha libre.  From scorpion-masked psychopath, to a self proclaimed guapo in a varsity jacket, to a member of the notorious Taliban.  All the while, he has managed to remain in the main event spotlight for all of the promotions he has worked for.  He recently added another federation to his credit, main eventing the debut show for the Northern California lucha fed, Califa LLE.  I had a chance to speak with the IWRG Intercontinental champion after his match, and was a little apprehensive about meeting him.  From Tijuana , to the CMLL show on Galavision, to the main event I had just witnessed, I had seen Scorpio dish out some pretty brutal beatdowns, and wasn’t sure how willing he’d be to sit down with a pocho from the internet.
Fortunately, he was very polite, giving sincere, thought out responses in hopes of giving a good interview.  Although a little worn out from the match that occurred only minutes earlier, he maintained a slight smile while projecting an intensity that only a lucha champion can.

Considering the fact that he had come to San Francisco all the way from Mexico City , I was curious if he kept up with the current American wrestling scene.

“Yeah…well, before I used to.  I would watch the older WWF shows,” he replied with a sly smile.  (Yeah, I have a hard time watching the new stuff, too.)

“I was a big fan of Jimmy Snuka,” he added.

The Califa show was pretty successful, with a very vocal crowd.  When asked about how he liked wrestling in the famous American city, he quickly replied,

“It’s great here.  I really like wrestling in a variety of places.  I like bringing my style everywhere.”

E
ven though he enjoys traveling to lucha shows all over the world, it took him less than a second to tell me his favorite place to wrestle,

“Arena
Mexico .  Definitely Arena Mexico .”

Speaking of the famous Mexico City venue, I sadly explained that in the States, we’re about 3 months behind in CMLL programming.  Unable to keep up with the current storylines, I asked him what was going on down south.

“We just had a big Talibanes vs. Guapos, hair-cage match!” he revealed.

Researching this further I learned that like a true rudo, Scorpio had climbed over his own partner, Bestia Salvaje, to escape the cage.  Minutes later, Bestia came up short in the match, getting his head thoroughly shaved as a result.

Scorpio Jr returned to Mexico that night to continue his ongoing feud with Shocker and the rest of the Guapos stable, but will hopefully return to US someday to dish out even more punishment to any American wrestlers who are brave enough to step in the ring with him.
